Job Summary:
Directs research and development projects focused on pressure sensitive adhesive tape prototype scale-up to product launch. Manages a team of process engineers in order to meet organization's needs for technology development, new product development, as well as continuous improvement and cost reduction of existing products and processes. Critical processes of focus will include acrylic polymerization scale-up, drum mixing, web handling, and roll good manufacturing for the production of pressure sensitive tape constructions.
Essential Functions:
- Directs research programs for new product development and product/process improvement of current Designs & conducts experiments on production-scale equipment.
- Responsible for managing product development Design and specifies production scale processes and conducts validation thereof.
- Manages a team of process engineers to ensure proper protocols are followed, processes are executed in an efficient manner with improvement of technical competencies
- Performs a variety of engineering tasks, which include but are not limited to preparation of experimental and validation activities for new and existing activities for new and existing products
- Preparation and review of developmental protocols, batch records, other documentation in chemical processing, coating and slitting/finishing
- Leads development of the new manufacturing technology which influences company-wide Provides expert input in improvement of existing systems.
- Documents project work, issues reports, and maintains files on projects. Completes any necessary regulatory
- Consults with technical director, operations and sales personnel on group priorities and
- Takes an active role in setting overall R&D direction & strategy.
- Participates in business planning process with one or more businesses as appropriate.
- Establishes program priorities, objectives and responsibilities for engineering
- Ensures effective communication of R&D program progress for work
- Participates and leads cross-functional product development
- Interfaces with customers on new product applications and networks externally to assure the highest level of competence
- Develops skills and evaluates performance of department Mentors and influences other associates.
- Makes identifiable and substantial contributions to continuous improvement.
- Performs all duties consistent with established Our Companies guidelines.
- Represents the organization in a professional and positive manner in all interactions.

Job Specifications:
- BS degree (or higher) in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science or materials science and/or significant industrial Ph.D. degree preferred but not required.
- Minimum 5 years experience in adhesive manufacturing, mixing processes and roll good
- Minimum 5 years experience in product development commercialization.
- Knowledge of acrylic polymerization scale-up.
- Knowledge of adhesive coating technologies (i.e. web handling, slot die, knife over roll )
- Understanding of roll good slitting preferred
- Excellent program prioritization and coordination skills, ability to manage multiple priorities
- Must communicate fluently in English
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of Our Companies information
- Excellent oral & written communication skills
- Familiarity with design of experiments and statistical software packages (i.e. Minitab)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and present effective technical presentations to internal and external customers
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Must be able to travel to customers and vendors (up to 25% of the time)
