Director of Occupational Health – Florida Cancer Specialists

Job Description Summary:

Provides leadership to achieve clinical financial and organizational outcomes. Directs all clinical and business operations of the Occupational Health Clinics for FCS. Oversees surveillance programs, return to work, health screenings, and medical case management (Family Medical Leave, Workers’ Compensation), and fitness for duty programs. Oversee evaluation and case management of injured workers. Oversee and supervises a total of 4 employees. Promotes innovation and excellence in clinical, service and team performance.

This critical role creates strategies and programs to drive FCS’s employee health programs across all practices. Advocates for a healthy, safe workplace and resilient workforce practices. Areas of responsibilities include:

Leads required industry programs but also incorporates creative, progressive, holistic, and resilient employee health, safety and wellness practices, programs, and processes for FCS.

Develop, manage, collaborate, and evaluate a wide variety of programs to reduce work-related risks, illnesses, and injuries. Develop strategies and plans related to first-aid and triage, illness management, immunizations and screening of new hires, collaborate with Infection Prevention and Control on Bloodborne pathogens and communicable disease exposure, hearing conservation, ergonomics and respiratory protection to maintain a safe environment for staff, patients and families.

Ensures the integration and coordination of services across the organization which include consistent and standardized operations, infrastructure, and overall strategic direction of all employee health and safety matters.

Manages Employee Health and Worker's Compensation in the health screening program which includes identifying and providing job health information, providing physical examinations, obtaining health and immunization history, and overseeing drug-testing and various other testing procedures as required by job and state.

Works with FCS Workers compensation administrator and FCS Workers Compensation Specialist to ensure claim follow up and closure, back to work timelines and loss run management. Collaborates with Compliance and Risk Management functions to ensure alignment and proactive claim review and reduce repeat injury/occurrence.

Manages FCS leave of absence programs with third party administrator consistently integrating the leave of absence program, triage line, based on Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) laws, COLA and any relevant new laws or state specific requirements.

Plans treatment, management, and prevention of communicable disease and the development of protocols in collaboration with Director of Nursing and other respective leaders and functions.

Provides oversight for the annual Employee Influenza program and is responsible for Mandatory Influenza Vaccination policy and influenza vaccination program.

Leads all efforts regarding COVID in the workplace and COVID response for employees – including but not limited to response/tracking/policy, positive and negative testing, symptomatic and asymptomatic employees, exposures, sanitation protocols, quarantine and return to work, leave status etc. Tracks and manages spread. Counsels practice leaders.

Complies with CDC, DOH and all regulatory agencies.

Manages Employee Health Record using systems or other applications to track all necessary employee health records per license, certification, and state/federal agency requirements.

Assures collection, monitoring and reporting of data and health information practices to assure proper custodianship of employee health records and trends analysis as well as all required regulatory reporting.

Assures effective case management through excellent communication with appropriate internal (Legal, Safety and Risk groups) and external contacts, timely and relevant medical specialty assessments and organizational strategies which maximize employee health and productivity. This will include training on enhancing local medical provider interaction and relationships.

Assist in the performance evaluation of the Occupational Health Departments through audits as well as the development and ongoing distribution of the Occupational Health scorecard.

Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, OSHA requirements and FCS policies.

Utilize actuarial, data and analytics to advise teams on key metrics to measure and provide report outs to location leaders showing the value of the services offered.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field, certification in Occupational or Public Health or Master s degree or Ph. D in Public Health preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible professional and management experience in a medium to large outpatient, hospital, or ambulatory health care role. Multi-site experience required.
  • Current Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Certified as an Occupational Health Nurse highly desirable.
  • Ability to travel 40% to 50%.
