Job Description

The Role:

You will join a top-flight legal team based at HQ to help develop and implement patent applications, patent strategies and other patent-related initiatives to protect the company’s extensive and rapidly evolving innovation in the analytics, mobile application, intelligent commerce, social media and software network space. The position will collaborate closely with a sophisticated team of technologists, senior business executives and other attorneys in helping to ensure that the company’s most promising inventions are identified and patented. You are able to move projects forward both skillfully and efficiently. Precision drafting and a sharp analytical mind are critical for this role. You are a quick-study with the ability to adapt to the needs of our evolving business, and you enjoy collaborating on cross-departmental projects.

Responsibilities:

·      Develop and generate patent applications

·      Provide guidance on the patentability of inventions

·      Determine strategic areas for patenting

·      Work with engineering and others including senior corporate executives to understand business priorities and vision, and incorporate these into patent strategy

·      Maintain the company’s patent portfolio

·      Assist in patent-related aspects of pre-litigation notices, litigation and IP transactions

·      Educate engineers and other company personnel generally on patent issues


Requirements:

·      J.D. from a top law school followed by at least 7 years of experience at a preeminent law firm and/or in-house department of a world-class technology company

·      Undergraduate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics or substantially similar technical field from a top-rated university

·      Extensive experience in patent preparation, prosecution and portfolio management with a focus on software, internet applications and related technologies

·      Eligibility to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

·      Technical industry experience a plus

·      Excellent drafting and communication skills

·      Ability to manage fast-paced workload and add value to multiple projects simultaneously

·      Motivated professional with high standards who desires to show ownership and commitment to the job and who can work effectively across departments
