Based in Mareeba in the agricultural heart of the Atherton Tablelands, this rural merchandise business is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a local grower co-operative.

This cooperative provides a range of products including crop inputs, crop protection, packaging, and animal health products for primary producers. The key production outputs of the area include mangoes, avocados, lychees, sugar cane, citrus, maize, corn and bananas.

The business also assists producers by providing technical expertise, undertaking research and assisting with field trials to enhance production levels and financial returns for its members.


A new role has become available for a Sales Agronomist to provide sound technical advice, with the objective of growing business throughout the Atherton Tablelands and the wider region.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Sales Agronomist will be responsible for developing, promoting and selling the business’ range of agricultural / rural merchandise products and services by providing the highest level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive technical agronomic services to clients
  • Develop new business opportunities to grow the business’ market share
  • Assist with the day-to-day retail operations of the business
  • Represent the business at regular industry meetings and field days
  • Implement and comply with a strong WH&S culture

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of previous experience in a sales agronomy role with exposure to tropical crops such as mangoes, avocados, citrus, or annual row crops like as corn, maize, sugarcane and sorghum.

  • Strong negotiation and sales skills
  • Commercial acumen
  • Ability to build rapport with the wider marketplace
  • Experience in providing on-farm agronomic advice and recommendations
  • Self-motivated and able to manage own time effectively


  • Tertiary qualifications in agricultural science or similar will be essential
