Located in the Mid North of South Australia, this company operates a sheep enterprise running approx. 4,000 DSE on 1,700 hectares producing quality Merino sheep and wool. The company has recently introduced EID and would like to introduce other sustainable livestock management practices to improve efficiency and increase profitability.


In a hands-on capacity, the Farm Manager’s prime function will be to manage the day-to-day operations of the enterprise, adopting sustainable farming practices in implementing the annual farm operating plan and budget. The key objective of this role will be to maintain long term production goals and increase carrying capacity and profitability, whilst also maintaining a commitment to improve the overall aesthetics of the property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the livestock program as developed by the Family Board
  • Daily supervision of staff and contractors
  • Ensure all operations are conducted in a timely and safe manner
  • Monitor animal health and feeding requirements
  • Document and report on all livestock breeding and paddock records
  • Supervise the production of livestock to achieve volume, quality and cost objectives
  • Conduct property developments including fencing, water and pasture improvements
  • Support the Family Board in implementing best practice methods aimed at improving the overall biodiversity and sustainability of the property

Skills and Experience

  • Good practical experience in livestock husbandry with an emphasis on Merino wool production
  • Previous experience monitoring animal health
  • Sound mechanical knowledge and property maintenance experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Ability to work unsupervised


  • Post-secondary qualification/s in agriculture or similar are preferred
  • Current driver’s licence (HR licence preferred)
  • Certification in ChemCert, Chainsaw, First Aid, & FEL operation would be advantageous
  • Properly trained working dogs would be an advantage
