Job Description

Located 90km east of Esperance in Western Australia, this large-scale mixed farming enterprise operating 30,000ha of arable land annually crops 19,500ha cropped to canola, wheat and barley aiming to produce 50,000 tonnes of grain. The remaining area is rotated into pasture, which supports 2,400 breeding cows and 24,000 ewes. This leading family farming business is seeking a Maintenance Manager to run a large, modern on-farm workshop.


Reporting to the Managing Director, the Maintenance Manager will lead the workshop team maintaining a fleet of tractors, harvesters, loaders, sprayers, trucks, trailers, excavators, light vehicles and other general farm machinery. The focus is on preparing all machinery for timely operation and to liaise directly with the two Cropping Operations Managers and the Livestock Manager to ensure seeding, spraying and harvest programs commence on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage permanent and casual staff to ensure their safety, the longevity of the plant and equipment and the quality and productivity of the work
  • Develop a preventative maintenance program for machinery, plant and equipment
  • Carry out repairs and maintenance of machinery in an efficient and effective manner
  • Manage data collection on individual machine service history
  • Control and record stock inventory of oils, parts and repairs within limit assigned by management
  • Follow company policy and procedures in all aspects of Work, Health and Safety

Skills and Experience

  • Extensive mechanical experience with agricultural machinery and heavy transport vehicles
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and team leadership skills
  • The ability to initiate preventative action and provide support to the team
  • Demonstrated experience solving complex problems and managing conflicting priorities


  • A current driver’s licence, ideally Heavy Rigid (HR)
  • A trade certificate in a diesel or automotive discipline

This is a hands-on position in a modern workshop facility for a motivated, well-organised mechanic, who can manage both their own time and supervise a small team and work with a range of modern equipment and technologies.


An attractive remuneration package, including a four-bedroom, 2-bathroom home with large living area, garden and driveway close to sealed road, and a work vehicle will be negotiated with the successful candidate to reflect experience.
