With a recent retirement, they are seeking to expand practice efforts and bring on board a professional to help lead their cultural resource team and manage various projects in the field. Responsibilities include conducting surveys to identify archaeological sites, testing to assess their significance, and contributing to mitigation projects to preserve and protect these cultural resources. Many of these projects have significant exposure to burials and excavations, which are often complex in nature.

General responsibilities include:

  1. Phase I Surveys: You will take the lead in conducting Phase I surveys, which involve systematically identifying and evaluating archaeological sites within a designated project area. 2. Phase Ib, Ic, and II Testing: You will be responsible for conducting Phase Ib, Ic, and II testing, which involves the excavation and analysis of archaeological sites to determine their significance and eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This may include excavation, artifact recovery, and documentation.

  3. Phase III Mitigation Projects: You will contribute to Phase III mitigation projects, with aim of mitigating the impacts of development on significant cultural resources. This may involve providing guidance on appropriate preservation strategies, coordinating excavation and documentation efforts, and collaborating with other professionals to ensure the successful implementation of mitigation measures.

  4. Authoring and Editing Reports: A critical aspect of your role will be preparing comprehensive and accurate reports documenting the findings and analyses from fieldwork and research. You will write and edit these reports, adhering to industry standards and project requirements. Clear and concise communication skills will be essential in conveying complex archaeological information effectively.

  5. Carrying Out QAQC on Peer's Documents: As part of the quality control process, you will review and conduct Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) checks on documents prepared by your peers. This involves ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project guidelines, regulations, and industry standards.

  6. Directing Analysis of Artifacts: Your expertise in artifact analysis will be valuable in helping to analyze and interpret archaeological material recovered from excavation and survey activities. You will contribute to understanding cultural contexts, chronology, and archaeological significance by examining and interpreting artifacts and other material culture.

  7. Undertaking Leadership/Mentoring of Staff: As an experienced Cultural Resources Archaeologist, you will be vital in providing leadership and mentoring to more junior staff members. This includes guiding them in field techniques, research methods, report writing, and professional development. Your guidance and expertise will contribute to their growth and enhance the team's overall capabilities.
