Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer, Memphis, TN

New product development/design. Modify/redesign existing products. Validate designs with FEA.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • New Product Design: Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of new products from ideation to production, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Existing Design Modification: Adapt and modify existing designs to meet the requirements of commercial projects, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance product performance and market competitiveness.
  • CAD Expertise: Utilize your advanced proficiency in SolidWorks to create detailed and accurate 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Conduct FEA simulations to evaluate and validate design performance, ensuring design integrity and optimal functionality.
  • Analysis and Testing: Perform analysis and testing of product performance in both field and laboratory settings, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless integration of new designs and successful product launches.
  • Manufacturing Support: Provide technical support to the manufacturing facility, addressing design-related issues and collaborating with production teams to ensure successful product assembly and quality.
  • Technical Product Support: Provide technical support to the customer and the sales team. This may involve travel to customer locations for in person support of product inspection and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating complex 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of injection molding, metal forging, heat treatment, and sand-casting processes. Applying this expertise to ensure that designs are optimized for manufacturing.
  • Maintain a hands-on approach, assisting with prototype creation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to design challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams and present design solutions.
  • Detail-oriented, with a high level of accuracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Adaptable and responsive to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Some travel will be required.
