Shine People Solutions is a specialist recruiter for the Corporate, Not-For-Profit and Government organisations. Our client is the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) and their vision is to ensure that every Aboriginal person in NSW has equal access to and choice in, affordable housing. They are changing the way they do things to deliver better housing solutions to clients and the community.

The AHO is seeking an Engagement and Communications Manager to be based in their Strategic Support Unit in Parramatta. As this position has a significant amount of Community engagement, we strongly encourage Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply.

About the Role
As the Manager, Engagement and Communications, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the AHO’s marketing and communications strategies to promote the policy priorities of the AHO and uphold the AHO’s reputation among key stakeholders. You will develop proactive and responsive strategies around stakeholder communication and engagement, as well as the development and planning of internal communication strategies. Your role will also include responsibilities around community engagement, by way of ensuring the AHO’s external website provides current information around organisation developments, projects and services.

About You
To be successful in this role, you must have the following skills and personal attributes:
  • Commitment to and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, demonstrated by your ability to communicate sensitively and understand relative issues.
  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing/communications or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in an Executive level leadership or management position with demonstrated experience in Communication and Engagement strategies.
  • Previous, extensive experience with a variety of digital platforms, social media and strong content creation techniques, and an ongoing commitment to remain up to date with knowledge and developments around these communication techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultural beliefs and attitudes and of the socio-economic position of Aboriginal people within Australian society, and of their impacts in relation to housing
  • A thorough understanding of the Aboriginal political and historical impacts upon policy developments in NSW and nationally in relation to Aboriginal land rights, and Aboriginal land use.
  • Strong time management, project management and prioritising skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong people management skills
  • Be able to satisfy a National Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check.
