Transportation Practice Leader (Seller/Doer)
Job Description
Transportation Practice Leader (Seller/Doer)
Sequence has been retained and is currently seeking a dynamic, highly driven individual to take on the role of Practice Leader with emphasis on business development/marketing for our client, a leading, well-respected niche transportation asset management, quality and cost performance services organization that is tackling some of the industry’s most unique challenges and projects.
This is currently one of the industry’s highest-profile practice/market leadership related positions available in the northwest United States. It is also the likely dream job of every professional seeking to find a key role in a more intimate organization; an opportunity to lead the way in creating a new practice group a mid-sized and growing consulting organization.
Based in the Seattle Area, the firm has been developing successfully and aggressively through organic growth throughout the region in recent years. With this growth has come the need to continuously build internal resources and add technical skill sets.
This has also resulted in a number of wildly expanded opportunities in the transportation market presenting themselves to the firm and leadership if they have the bandwidth to take on and address the challenges associated with tackling them. Chiefly among these is the more formal establishment of a practice focused on the transportation sector with a leader who will act as the technical lead and rainmaker for the organization, responsible for identifying, targeting and marketing the firm’s services to the public and private sectors.
Key being to focus within civil transportation infrastructure, assets and transit marketplaces.
This in mind, our client has tasked us with finding them a capable Transportation practice lead who can help them grow and develop the niche market. Someone that is an established professional and knowledgeable in the sector who leverage their connections and experience to develop clients and bring in and service projects.
In their experience, there is increasing scrutiny from the Federal Government on State DOTs as well as transit service providers to really know what their physical assets are and do financial modeling and planning to keep them in good working order - reducing the massive backlog that we have nationally. Key to taking advantage of this is recruiting a professional who knows transportation and asset management practices. From their perspective, that type of work ties in nicely to other existing services like condition analysis and value engineering.
Generally speaking, the ideal candidate will have a blend of selling and doing. With likely business development and client relationships creation a heavier focus initially.
The role would have project management responsibilities, but at first, this can be partially supported by existing staff. If projects are generated they are happy to hire more higher-level technical professional to support the role. This is a full practice building activity and the firm will expend whatever resources are necessary to build the practice and meet work requirements. Key to establish the practice.
The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years technical abilities in the transportation and transit field and be capable with business and client relationship development /management experience. Though a consultant might be an excellent fit, the firm is more than happy to talk to anyone interested in transitioning out of the public sector.
Our client offers very competitive compensation, solid benefits, vacation and performance bonus, etc. For the right individual, nearly anything within reason can be structured based on success. This might include merging an existing smaller practice into the organization and even having avenues for principal ownership.
Relocation support from anywhere in the country would also be available.
