Marine Mechanic / Engineer

Sequence has been exclusively retained and is currently searching for a Marine Mechanic in Hawaii.

That’s right, leave the cold winter ports and dirty harbors behind. Live in paradise on a small island in Hawaii doing meaningful work on a fleet of research and ecotour vessels. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, this key role is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of fleet of eight vessels (ecotour, research, tenders, and all equipment affiliated with operations).

And when we say reasonable expectations and environment, we aren’t joking. We put mechanics and marine engineers in positions all around the world. Harvest and production operations, foreign locales, cold harbors, dirty facilities. Our client is the opposite, with a fleet of mid-sized commercial work and tour vessels, they are invested in their operations. The vessels are newer, well maintenance, and resourced mid-sized (Typically: LOA 66, Draft 9 to 25, Beam 8 to 25) kept in-slip or moored offshore on a realistic replacement schedule with required dry doc every two years during shoulder/slower months.

With a strong program in place, we are simply seeking a capable individual to join the operation.

General Responsibilities

  • Work with Maintenance Manager to execute preventive maintenance plan on commercial Subchapter T vessels and research vessels;
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on diesel engines and gasoline outboard engines and all associated engine components;
  • Provide training and troubleshooting assistance to captains during operations;
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on all vessel systems, including all plumbing, 12V & 24V electrical systems, electronics, etc.;
  • Diagnose and repair electrical system;
  • Perform wood, fiberglass, and metal fabrication/repairs for vessels and related equipment;
  • Contribute to cleaning and organizing the Maintenance shop and maintaining the parts inventory system;
  • Maintain company vehicles and related equipment.

General Requirements:

  • Experience working on diesel and gasoline marine engines;
  • Experience working on vessel electrical and plumbing systems;
  • Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office and email;
  • Able to drive company vehicles, including trailers; must have valid driver’s license + clean driving record;
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills with a high level of professionalism;
  • Excellent decision-making skills in high-stress situations;
  • Highly organized with ability to set and meet goals and deadlines;
  • Available for a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays;
  • Able to work unsupervised in varied environmental conditions (heat, humidity, rain, wind, etc.);
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs and bend, climb, crawl, squat, reach in and out of spaces aboard vessels as needed.
