Construction Estimator - Fuel and Retail Service Stations
Sequence has been exclusively retained and is currently seeking a Construction Estimator to work for one of the industry's leading niche construction companies specializing in fueling and retail service stations. The organization is behind a good portion of the standalone specialty service station marketplaces builds as well as pump stations with major retail chains and supermarkets facilities.
This is currently the most high-profile position of its like in the niche industry. With projects throughout the nation, the role can be remotely based anywhere in the United States.
Specifically, we are seeking a capable construction estimator with both vertical and underground experience to handle all estimating efforts for a portfolio of projects. While fueling and retail related experience is desirable, the organization is willing to bring mentor or bring the right individual with skill set up to speed on their niche industry. They have refined best practices and systems in place which would assist in this endeavor.
The company has consistently had a large project backlog and is constantly fed new initiations; so, the role has long term job security.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual who will be responsible for producing construction cost estimates and well as participating in scoping and bidding efforts for hand off to construction personnel for underground and vertical build efforts. The firms estimating processes are extremely refined and a good majority of work is fixed price.
General duties would include:
- Determine the total cost of materials, equipment, utilities, and labor for construction projects.
- Research construction documents and analyze specifications.
- Prepare estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling project work.
- Manage pre-qualification and pre-bid submissions. Prepare subcontractor scope documentation for distribution to subcontractors.
- Prepare RFI’s when unknowns are encountered in the plan set.
- Prepare project management handover package (ability to engage in discussions on opportunities and strategies for cost savings).
- Identify subcontractor recommendations, qualifications, general information, scheduling concerns and lead times.
- Support efforts to cultivate bids to subcontractors, assemble information, generate excitement around a project, and coordinate preferred trade partners to be invited.
- Perform bid leveling, recommending subtrade for the entire project leaving no gaps in project scope.
- Utilize geotechnical analysis to prescribe methods to overcome problems described within.
- Ensures earthwork estimates from subtrade are competent, accurate in import/export quantities, their proposal ‘fits the site’, outlines trucking paths and phasing.
- Acquire alternates from bidding contractors to make decisions based on correct information.
- Possess an understanding of costs and aspects of importing/exporting materials from/to the site.
- Regularly report to management and keep clients updated on the project status.
- Formulating contingency plans and effectively managing risks that might impact cost and time estimates to complete every estimate on time.
Ideally this includes a professional capable of becoming a key member of the construction management team.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 4 to 5+ years extensive experience as an estimator in the construction field.
- Exceptional time management, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
- Management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to closely collaborate with other project teams and stakeholders.
- Basic computer skills and demonstrable competency with software such as Bluebook, Building Connected, Google Maps, ProCore, etc.
- Ability to travel on occasion and perform site analysis.
