Title: Construction Engineer 3
Location: Los Alamos, NM
Duration: Award – 09/2026 with potential to extend
Position Purpose:
- The Construction Engineer 3 (CE3) is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full accordance with the Approved Project Documents. This includes:
- Monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities.
- Offering input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout phases.
- CE3s expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the construction team through approved procedures.
- Leadership experience is a must for this level 3 position.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and 6 years of practical work experience, OR 14 years of industry experience.
- An EIT or PE certification is highly desirable.
- This position may fall under DOE Order 426.2, which outlines personnel selection, training, and qualification requirements for DOE nuclear facilities.
- Extensive knowledge of construction engineering principles.
- Proven ability to oversee and verify construction work, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and national codes/standards.
- Collaborative problem-solving skills to address facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field.
- Experience developing and implementing process improvements.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills in multidisciplinary environments.
- Expertise in developing Material Take Offs (MTOs).
- Knowledge of technical codes relevant to various disciplines (e.g., ASME B31, NEC, ASME AG-1, ACI).
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple construction projects.
- Leadership experience in guiding others in the field.
- Ability to work independently on complex tasks.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers in design review, pre-construction coordination, and construction oversight.
- Proficiency in reviewing engineering submittals to ensure compliance.
- Advanced experience in nuclear, accelerator, laboratory, or industrial facility operations.
- Expertise in construction planning, facility maintenance techniques, and control methods.
- Knowledge of DOE/NNSA codes and Engineering Standards.
Salary and Benefits Information:
Expected Salary Range: $150k - $185k / year (depending on experience)
