Position Overview:
TradeWind Services is seeking a highly capable and motivated Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support the design, integration, and implementation of advanced control systems for federal and new nuclear energy design and construction projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing safe, reliable, and efficient I&C solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards.
This position offers the flexibility to work onsite, hybrid, or remotely, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams supporting Department of Energy (DOE) and emerging nuclear energy programs. Prior DOE experience is not required, but experience in complex, regulated, or industrial environments is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Design, develop, and implement instrumentation and control systems for industrial, nuclear, and energy-related projects.
- Specify and integrate sensors, transmitters, actuators, and control hardware to meet system performance and safety requirements.
- Develop control logic, loop diagrams, and system architectures for distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and human-machine interfaces (HMI).
- Support configuration, programming, and testing of PLC and DCS systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, DeltaV).
- Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, I/O lists, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams.
- Participate in system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Ensure system compliance with applicable standards including ISA, IEEE, NFPA, and DOE directives.
- Support risk and hazard analyses, functional safety reviews, and cybersecurity considerations for control systems.
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure cohesive system design and operation.
- Provide technical input during project planning, estimates, and design reviews.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Control Systems, or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering for industrial or energy projects.
- Proficiency with PLC/DCS configuration, logic development, and troubleshooting.
- Experience creating or reviewing control logic, P&IDs, I/O lists, and control schematics.
- Strong understanding of process instrumentation, sensors, and control loops.
- Familiarity with ISA, NFPA, and IEC standards for control systems.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting DOE, nuclear, or other federal facility projects.
- Working knowledge of functional safety (IEC 61511 / ISA 84) principles.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
- Experience with control system integration and commissioning.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
- Experience with modeling or simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, OPC interfaces).
