What is Project Manager at EXPRESS?


The Project Manager, Technical leads all aspects of technical and non-technical Technology projects including deliverables and processes to accomplish project objectives, assembles project teams, manages resource allocation, sets expectations, develops and maintains the project plan and scope, manages day-to-day operations, tracks progress of all tasks, maintains project accounting and financial results, resolves issues and delivers regular status reports to senior management.

This role will establish and implement project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to high-quality standards and meet customer expectations. In addition, the Project Manager assists with the selection, negotiation, and managing of all activities regarding external consultants or vendors.

As a member of the Stores Technology team, this role provides facilitation and support of the organization by leading and directing the work of other employees, influencing collaboration, communication, and execution between stores, store operations and Express technology teams. Areas of focus include Store Deployment, Payment/OMS/Mobile projects. This position applies project management knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet project requirements.


What you will do:

  • Delivery of Technology solutions to established and/or modified business area/management expectations; in terms of functionality/scope, quality, timeframe and financial constraints.
  • Responsible for effectively managing assigned projects.
  • Project management duties include recommending project team structure, developing and maintaining the project plan, managing day-to-day work, tracking progress of all tasks, maintaining project accounting and financial results, resolving issues and delivering regular status reports.
  • Provides and presents regular status reports to leadership and steering committees.
  • When outside vendors are part of the project, acts as manager and liaison with the vendor in issues of scope of work, team composition and vendor execution, as well as vendor financials pertaining to assigned resources.
  • Provides input to strategic and tactical plans.
  • Observes customer and management expectations and matches expectations (as they form, mature and change) to established project objectives.
  • Assesses any gap between current and established expectations and actively works to close differences through either molding the business expectations or modifying the project objectives.
  • When there is a substantial change in expectations which leads to a change in project objectives, pursues all consequences and documents the changes (scope, timing, funding).
  • Immediately raises professional concerns in this area to project team and project sponsor and seeks assistance in expectation alignment process.
  • This is a remote role, however, depending on the projects at hand, the person can be required to attend EXPRESS' offices in Costa Rica.


What we are looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field.
  • Years of Experience: 3 - 5 of department management or project management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have solid understanding of project financials along with exposure to and experience with business processes, business analysis, and general business acumen.
  • Ability to influence without authority or direct reports.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to spreadsheets creation and optimization, budgeting, and project forecasting methodologies.
  • Good domain of Microsoft Word and Power Point.

Nice to haves:

  • Creative Operations or Project Management Experience.
  • Ability to influence without authority or direct reports.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain working relationships with key collaborators both internal and external to the organization.
  • Formal training with multiple lifecycle methodologies specifically in the Agile methodology, as well as formal training in project management.
  • Working knowledge of Store Operations and Payment systems.
  • Understanding of specialty retail concepts and processes.
  • Experience with large volume projects.
  • Understanding and previous use of Project Management tools such as Jira, MS Project, Visio, or equivalent.
